To better appreciate this course, it will be appropriate to start with an understanding of what is fire. Fire is the rapid combination of oxygen with fuel in the presence of heat, typically characterized by flame, a body of incandescent gas that contains and sustains the reaction and emits light and heat. Thus, both oxygen and fuel are needed to start a fire and this also means that if the supply of oxygen or fuel is cut off, the fire subsides. Besides this, fire can also be caused by electrical short circuit. As can be seen and known, fire can cause tremendous and irreparable damage to life and property.
Fire can be either manmade or natural. Generally, manmade fires take place in enclosures such as buildings, godowns etc. and as a cause of negligence or intent. Natural fires take place in external surroundings such as fields, forests etc. and as a cause of lightning, extraordinary heat or sometimes due to man’s carelessness. The area of influence for a manmade fire is generally smaller than that of a natural fire.
Unlike other disasters, improper knowledge about extinguishing the fire can cause further spreading of fire (e.g. if a person throws water on a fire caused by oil based substance, the oil/ petroleum will spread causing more fire)
The most common fire-fighting equipment is the fire-extinguisher. It is easy to use and can put out small fires. However, most people, at times of emergency fail to use it as they do not know how to use it.
The basic objective of including Fire Rescue course into the AADM Advanced training program is to provide detailed information about fire causes, ways to prevent spreading of fire and also demonstrate the use of various types of fire extinguishers which is the need of the hour.
Course Objectives
Fire is the one such disaster that can be avoided or at least mitigated, if proper care and precautions are taken. Hence the main objective of Aniruddha’s Academy of Disaster Management is to educate all professionals as well as lay persons about the safety and preservation of property. This thus remains the primary goal of the fire protection program.
Before Fire
- To make people aware of precautions and safety measures to be taken to avoid fire
- To make people familiar with various types of fire extinguishers and demonstrations on how to use them
During Fire
- Alternate ways of preventing and minimising spreading of fire
- If the fire is uncontrollable then various rescue methods to be followed in a place surrounded by fire
Scope and Opportunities
- The participants can aspire to become trained fire fighters and support to tackle the situation independently or assist fire men during rescue operations
- The training can support to pursue a formal program or career path for the individual
- Also a fully trained fire fighter DMV (Disaster Management Volunteer) can then become a teacher for such courses and work towards increasing the outreach of the AADM programs
- Trained participants may get preference while seeking job opportunities as this serves as an additional qualification both in the corporates and government sectors
- This course will also assist in case of any domestic fire
Course Duration
- A 2 full day course
Course Framework/Outline
- Theory Lectures where basic information on the following is provided:
- About Fire
- Types and classification of fire
- Causes of fire
- Precautionary measures
- Info on Fire Extinguishers
- Information regarding supportive infrastructural facilities like water, sand, first aid etc
Practice of Rescue Methods covers the various types of fire – rescue operations like fireman’s crawl, rescue from a height
Live Demonstration
It consist of:
- Actual use of fire extinguishers
- Use of personal protective equipments. (Masks, hoods etc)
- Rescue and lifting methods to be used during rescue operation
Infrastructure Requirement
- Generally Aniruddha’s Academy Of Disaster Management uses school / college hall / auditorium after prior permission from that particular school / college / Institutions
- But Fire Rescue course requires basic infrastructure for live demo hence such courses will take place in the premises of a fire station.
Course Faculty – Teaching and Support
Advance Fire Rescue operation trained Disaster Management Volunteers in turn will now be teaching the fresh DMVs. AADM also ensures proper skilled personnel to be present at the time of live demo for proper methods and to avoid any mishaps.
Participant Eligibility Criteria
